Oil prices jump as Middle East violence roils markets

Oil prices surged over $3 a barrel in early Asian trade on Monday due to the military clashes between Israeli and Hamas forces, which has caused political uncertainty in the Middle East. The clashes, which saw Hamas launch a major assault on Israel, have the potential to disrupt US efforts to broker a rapprochement between Saudi Arabia and Israel.
