WTO member countries need to discuss crypto currency under e-commerce negotiations: GTRI

The Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI) has suggested that issues related to cryptocurrency should be included in negotiations on e-commerce agreements by member countries of the World Trade Organisation (WTO). The classification of cryptocurrencies under the WTO e-commerce framework is currently ambiguous, and GTRI argues that the debate should focus on whether cryptocurrency exchanges fall under 'electronic transmissions' in e-commerce. The outcomes of the ongoing WTO negotiations will have significant implications for global digital trade.
