Govt closely monitoring rice situation in domestic, international markets on weekly basis

IndiaTimes Wednesday, 20 December 2023
The government is monitoring the rice situation in the domestic and international markets on a weekly basis. India has banned the export of broken and non-basmati white rice due to uncertainty around rice production, geopolitical scenario, and El Nino sentiments. Minister of state for commerce and industry, Anupriya Patel, stated that India can increase its percentage share in global rice trade when favorable conditions arise. India was the largest rice exporting country from 2018 to 2022. Agriculture exports have declined due to international price decline and restrictions on essential food product exports.
