George Romero died age 77 [Wenn] The founder of the zombie genre died in his sleep on Sunday, with his wife and daughter at his side. Romero suffered from a "brief but aggressive battle" with lung cancer, his longtime producing partner Peter Grunwald said to CNN. He co-wrote and directed the film that started the zombie series Night Of The Living Dead in 1968.
