NewJeans, IVE experience ‘Black Oceans’ at MMA

The 2023 Melon Music Awards honored K-Pop groups, but fans noticed a sparse display of light sticks during IVE and NewJeans' award acceptances, raising concerns of a black ocean protest. However, further analysis revealed that the dimmed light stick display was not exclusive to these girl groups. Male idol groups also experienced similar moments. It turns out that fans temporarily lowered their light sticks to capture moments on cameras during award acceptances and performances. This misunderstanding dispels the initial concern of IVE and NewJeans facing a black ocean at the awards.
