Not Jackie, Hero was to star Sanjay Dutt

'Hero' will complete 40 years on December 16, 2023. When Ghai started his career, he made films with Ranjit Vig, NN Sippy, and Gulshan Rai. Actor Dilip Thakur revealed that Ram Kelkar wrote a script titled 'Sangeet', a musical love story. Sanjay Dutt was supposed to star but went for rehab. Kamal Haasan was approached but busy. Kumar Gaurav refused to grow a beard. Jackie Shroff was chosen as the lead.
