Boney asked to deposit a bank guarantee plus interest

IndiaTimes Tuesday, 9 April 2024 ()
Ninad Nayampally, a camera equipment supplier, filed a case against non-payment of dues for the film Maidaan. His lawyer, Namrata Biyawat, stated that the court directed the producer, Boney Kapoor, and team to deposit a bank guarantee for the principal amount plus interest within 8 days. This outcome, she emphasized, not only settled the financial obligations but also established a precedent for contractual agreements in the film industry. However, Boney Kapoor's lawyer, Ameet Naik, portrayed the move as a common tactic to pressure filmmakers before a release. He mentioned the court's refusal to grant an injunction and outlined plans to challenge the bank guarantee order. Naik clarified that while Kapoor never denied the principal payment, the dispute over interest required court adjudication. Despite this legal hurdle, the film is slated for release as scheduled.
