Norway becomes first country to back controversial deep sea mining
Wednesday, 10 January 2024 Controversial deep sea mining is one step closer to reality as Norway approved the practice in a parliamentary vote, sparking furious outcry from environmental campaigners.
The vote has opened an area of the Norwegian Sea nearly as big as Italy to deep-sea mining exploration - an activity that scientists fear might destroy marine life.
Thousands of pro-Palestinian demonstrators have been gathering in central Malmö ahead of the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest. They have been protesting against Israel’s participation in this year’s contest in the southern Swedish city. Security is tight ahead of the final on Saturday, with armoured police reinforcements from Denmark and Norway drafted in to help. Report by Jonesia.
