Post Office scandal victims secure improved interim compensation
Monday, 26 February 2024 The government has announced it will significantly increase the interim payment given to Post Office workers who have their convictions overturned, from £163,000 to £450,000.

Former Post Office boss Angela van den Bogerd has left the Post Office inquiry after her second day of giving evidence. Ms van den Bogerd, who held numerous positions at the Post Office during her 35-year career, opened her evidence yesterday by saying she is "truly sorry" for the "devastation" caused to wrongly convicted sub-postmasters.

Former sub-postmaster Alan Bates said that "they just have to get on with it and get people paid", as he spoke out after giving evidence at the Post Office inquiry. Mr Bates was asked if he believes there will be any criminal prosecutions as a result of the scandal.
"I think we will see some. Whether it's undertaken by the authorities themselves, or whether we as a group have to bring some if the authorities fail us once again - we'll have to wait and see," he added.
