Thursday, 8 June 2023 The Uttarakhand high court (HC), taking suo moto cognisance of the daily traffic congestion in Nainital during peak tourist season, warned that "if the issue is not resolved promptly, the situation may worsen." "Nainital may become the next Joshimath", the court added, alluding to the 'sinking town' near Badrinath where large cracks appearing in houses due to geological factors arising out of rampant construction and infrastructural projects had forced several families to abandon their homes earlier this year.
