Congress claims India's debt under Modi govt risen to Rs 155 lakh crore, demands white paper on economy
Saturday, 10 June 2023 The Congress on Saturday alleged that India's debt has nearly "tripled" to Rs 155 lakh crore in the nine years under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and demanded a white paper on the state of the economy. Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate alleged the Modi government's "economic mismanagement" is responsible for the present state of the economy and claimed that Rs 100 lakh crore of debt has been added since the present dispensation assumed charge in 2014.

“The Commission, in its order today after the receipt of their replies to notices issued to them over MCC violations, said they are convinced that they made a low-level personal attack and thus violated the provisions of Model Code of Conduct. They have been warned to remain careful in public utterances during the Model Code of Conduct period” an EC source said. The Election Commission had on March 27 issued show-cause notices to Ghosh and Shrinate, finding that both had prima facie violated the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
