Gujarat: Power bills for STP unpaid, Gir lions drink polluted river water

The Gujarat high court on Wednesday ordered the reluctant Paschim Gujarat Vij Co Ltd (PGVCL) to extend a power connection to the Talala municipality in Gir Somnath district so that its newly built sewage treatment plant (STP) can start functioning and hence curb the pollution in the Hiran river affecting the wildlife, especially the Asiatic lions, in the Gir sanctuary.
