India’s projected population as on July 1 was 139 crore, less than China’s, says govt

The home ministry on Tuesday informed Lok Sabha that India’s projected population on July 1, 2023, as per a health and family welfare ministry report, was around 139 crore. This is not only lower than the projected count of 142.9 crore on July 1, 2023, as per the UN’s ‘World Population Prospects 2022’ but also short of 142.6 crore projection for China on the same day.
