Tuesday, 1 August 2023 The Congress on Tuesday reiterated its demand on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make the opening statement in the Rajya Sabha on the Manipur violence which should be followed by a long duration discussion under Rule 267 . Congress MP and media head Jairam Ramesh cited the proceedings of the House in 2002 when the then PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee had made a statement on the 2002 Gujarat violence. Ramesh's remarks follow TMC MP Derek O'Brien's similar demand on the day.

Two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel lost their lives in an attack by Kuki militants starting from midnight till 2:15 am at Naransena area in Manipur. This is the first time that they have attacked the forces, none of the militants of Meiteis or Kukis attacked the forces as the forces are here to maintain peace and that is how we are in the middle of both communities. They call these forces (paramilitary) neutral forces... Earlier, you might have seen that the groups are attacking the national infrastructure like the roads and towers. Now, they are attacking central forces. How can this be tolerated?..."
