More central forces sent to Manipur amid Meitei outfit's appeal to boycott Biren govt

The Centre despatched 800 additional central security personnel to Manipur late Saturday, hours after fresh violence left the embattled N Biren Singh-led BJP government facing a new challenge - an "indefinite social boycott" by Meitei civil society groups. This was in contrast to thousands of people assembling in front of his residence on June 30 to prevent him from resigning. Some women had then snatched and torn up the resignation letter he was planning to submit.
