Nagaland House clears resolution to exempt the state from Uniform Civil Code

The Nagaland assembly unanimously passed Tuesday a resolution for exemption of the state from the proposed Uniform Civil Code. Moving the resolution in the assembly, chief minister Neiphiu Rio pointed out that Article 371(A) of the Constitution provides for the protection of religious and social practices of the Nagas and Naga customary laws and procedures, unless the assembly so decides by a resolution.

Polling in 102 parliamentary seats across 21 states and Union Territories in the first phase of Lok Sabha Elections commenced at 7 am on April 19 and ended at 6 pm. Over 102 parliamentary constituencies in 21 states and union territories headed to the polling booth on Friday, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. West Bengal recorded the highest turnout till 5 PM at 77.57 per cent, followed by Tripura at 76.10 per cent.
