Maharashtra onion traders' stir to go on for now as talks fail

IndiaTimes Friday, 22 September 2023
Talks between Nashik guardian minister Dada Bhuse and onion traders to resolve the issue of auctions at Agriculture Produce Market Committees (APMCs) ended without a resolution. The traders are on strike and have refused to withdraw it, despite warnings of license cancellation from APMCs. The traders want the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd (Nafed) and the National Cooperative Consumers' Federation of India Limited (NCCF) to sell their buffer stock of onions in retail markets or through ration shops. They also want the government to roll back 40% of the export duty on onions.
