Cauvery basin sees Karnataka’s steepest rainfall deficit at 32%
Tuesday, 26 September 2023
South-interior Karnataka, particularly the Cauvery basin districts, is facing a 27% deficit in rainfall and is unlikely to receive relief from the southwest monsoon. The deficit in the Cauvery basin districts has reached 32%, with some areas receiving only a third of their required rainfall. While there is a possibility of heavy rain in late September and early October, the overall deficit in Karnataka stands at 19%. The onset of the northeast monsoon in October may help alleviate the crisis in the worst-hit areas.
