Gujarat has seen a significant increase in heart emergencies, with a 28% rise in 2023 compared to the previous year, according to EMRI 108 emergency services data. The state recorded 46,155 calls for cardiac emergencies until September 25, 2023, averaging 173 daily calls or seven calls per hour. Ahmedabad city alone saw a 30% increase in cardiac events. Alarmingly, half of the cardiac emergency patients are young, below 50 years of age, and 25% are between 21-40 years old. Experts emphasize the importance of early identification and highlight factors such as unhealthy diet, lack of exercise, and obesity contributing to the rising trend.
