The southwest monsoon is expected to withdraw from Bengal on Friday, the earliest date in at least five years. This year's withdrawal is a week earlier than last year, despite a three-day delay from the normal date. The absence of weather systems in the Bay of Bengal this year is in contrast to frequent cyclonic circulations and depressions in 2020 and 2021, resulting in prolonged rainfall. The heavy rainfall in September and October led to the projection of a delayed monsoon. The rising heat indicates that a retreat is imminent, with no rain respite expected soon.
