After MP fiasco, SP toughens stand on seat sharing with Congress
Thursday, 19 October 2023 The Samajwadi Party (SP) has positioned itself as the "big brother" of the opposition bloc in Uttar Pradesh (UP) for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls and toughened its stance on seat sharing with the Congress. The SP has demanded a standard seat sharing formula that is acceptable to all partners in the INDIA alliance. This comes after talks of an alliance between the SP and Congress for the Madhya Pradesh polls fell apart due to the Congress fielding a candidate against an SP MLA. Political observers believe that the Congress is unlikely to agree to a standard seat sharing formula nationwide.
