Hope EC will take case against Sarma to logical conclusion, says Congress
Thursday, 26 October 2023 The Congress party has criticized Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his alleged hate speech in Chhattisgarh. The party hopes that the Election Commission will take appropriate action against Sarma for violating the poll code. The Congress has accused Sarma of making communally charged statements and unverified allegations against a Congress leader. The Election Commission has served notice to Sarma and found his speech to be prima facie violative of the Model Code of Conduct. The Congress argues that politicians in constitutional positions should not be allowed to get away with such violations.
Delhi police on Saturday detained former personal secretary of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Bibhav Kumar, in connection with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Swati Maliwal assault case. In her complaint to the police, Maliwal alleged Kumar attacked her at Kejriwal’s residence on May 14 with “full force, slapping and kicking her in the chest and abdomen.” According to National Commission For Women (NCW) Chairperson Rekha Sharma, Kumar was ‘arrested’ from Kejriwal’s home.
