Supreme Court to hear AAP leader Raghav Chadha's plea challenging suspension from Rajya Sabha
Sunday, 29 October 2023 The Supreme Court is set to hear a petition filed by AAP leader Raghav Chadha challenging his indefinite suspension from the Rajya Sabha. Chadha's lawyers argue that the suspension cannot extend beyond the particular session during which the decision was made. The court will also consider whether the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha has the power to suspend a member pending an inquiry. Chadha was suspended for including the names of MPs without their consent in a proposed select committee.
In its first reaction since yesterday, it was admitted by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday that Swati Maliwal, a Rajya Sabha MP and the former chief of Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), was "misbehaved" with by Bibhav Kumar, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s former personal assistant. During a press conference, it was stated by AAP leader Sanjay Singh that, "Yesterday, a condemnable incident took place. Swati Maliwal had gone to Arvind Kejriwal’s residence to meet him. While she was waiting for him in the drawing room, Vaibhav Kumar allegedly misbehaved with her. The CM has taken cognisance of the matter, and appropriate action will be taken."
