'Govt working on getting 8 Indians detained in Qatar released': Navy chief
Monday, 30 October 2023 Speaking at an event in Goa, Admiral Hari Kumar said, "Every effort is being made by the government to ensure we take this up through the legal course and we get relief for our personnel". This comes after the Court of First Instance of Qatar passed a verdict of the death penalty for the eight former naval officers who were detained in Doha. Earlier, external affairs minister S Jaishankar met with the families of eight Indians detained in Qatar and assured them that the government will make all efforts to secure their release.
Racket sports are very popular in Qatar, starting with tennis that draws to Doha the top players like Tunisian champion Ons Jabeur. The popularity of Padel is also on the rise with a growing number of dedicated infrastructure.
