100 days after minor’s rape-murder, man convicted in Kerala

Asafaq Alam, accused of sexually assaulting and murdering a five-year-old girl in Kerala, has been found guilty by the Ernakulam additional district sessions court. The verdict was reached just 100 days after the crime took place. Alam, who is a Bihar native, has been convicted on 16 charges and could potentially face the death penalty. The prosecution highlighted aggravating circumstances in the case and argued for the death penalty. Witness statements and scientific evidence, such as DNA found in the victim's nail clippings, played a crucial role in securing the conviction.
