Rain across TN: Water level in Vaigai dam reaches 66 feet, flood warning issued

IndiaTimes Monday, 6 November 2023
The water level in Vaigai dam in Madurai, India, reached 66 feet, prompting the issuance of the first flood warning of the season. The dam is nearing its total capacity of 71 feet. The Periyar dam's level stood at 125.5 feet out of a total capacity of 152 feet. The region experienced abundant rainfall, resulting in bumper crops, but the Southwest monsoon was inadequate to fill the Periyar dam. The government may issue a GO to release water for double-crop areas, but farmers believe it is too late.
