Why Delhi Secretariat is on shaky grounds

The Delhi Secretariat, a crucial hub of governance in the capital, is in a structurally vulnerable condition, according to an internal report by the Public Works Department (PWD). A retrofitting project is being planned for the seismically unsafe building, which is expected to take at least 18 months. The audit report has also highlighted compromised fire safety measures, electrical issues, and inadequate emergency exit facilities. The building's energy efficiency and environmental performance are also far below standard. The government had previously planned to construct a new office at ITO, but progress has been stalled due to land and budget issues.
