India calls for immediate release of Israeli hostages, de-escalation: MEA
Thursday, 9 November 2023 India has called for the immediate release of hostages and the de-escalation of the Israel-Hamas conflict. The Ministry of External Affairs has condemned the attack on Israel and expressed concern over the rising civilian death toll. India supports a two-state solution for resolving the Israel-Palestine issue and has urged both parties to de-escalate violence and resume peace negotiations. India has also provided humanitarian assistance to Gaza, including medical supplies and relief material.
More than 240 hostages are still believed to be held by Hamas. Families of some of the hostages have travelled to Brussels to ask EU lawmakers to help secure the release of their loved ones.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken urged Hamas on Monday to promptly accept Israel's recent and notably generous proposal for a Gaza ceasefire to facilitate the release of hostages. This call comes amidst ongoing diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict between Israel and Hamas. Hamas negotiators were anticipated to convene with Qatari and Egyptian mediators in Cairo on Monday to provide a response to Israel's phased truce proposal, which was presented over the weekend. This comes ahead of potential Israeli action targeting the southern border city of Rafah.

In a significant development, a top Hamas official indicated to The Associated Press a willingness to consider a five-year truce with Israel and disarm if a Palestinian state is established along pre-1967 borders.
