Scientists dig up fossil of crocodile ancestor that lived in Bengal 250m years ago
Tuesday, 14 November 2023 Scientists have discovered the fossilized remains of a 250-million-year-old animal, believed to be an ancestor of the crocodile, in India. The fossil, found in Bengal's West Midnapore district, predates the earliest archaeological relics from the region by over 200 million years. Named Samsarasuchus palemae, the creature lived during the Triassic period on the supercontinent Pangaea. This discovery provides valuable insights into the ancient biodiversity of India.
