4.6 lakh flyers on World Cup eve set record after lean Diwali
The World Cup final led to a boost in air traffic in India, with almost 460,000 domestic flyers on Saturday. This was the highest-ever figure recorded, in contrast to the lean daily numbers seen during the Diwali season. Industry insiders attribute this to the high advance fares set by airlines before Diwali, which led travellers to choose AC classes on premium trains instead. However, looking at the excitement in the audience, airlines later lowered the fares.
