2 years after IAS officer's death, ITAT rejects I-T assessment in DA case
The Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) has nullified the income-tax department's assessment against Madhya Pradesh cadre IAS officer Arvind Joshi that led to a 13-year-long legal battle. The verdict came two years after his death. The ITAT verdict, which was delivered on November 7 and uploaded on its website on Sunday, is a rare instance of the tribunal passing an ex parte order against the income-tax department. The tribunal underscored its displeasure over the 25 adjournments sought by the Commissioner of Income Tax over the past two years.
