Illegal to grant bail for limited period after concluding accused entitled to it pending trial: Supreme Court

IndiaTimes Sunday, 3 December 2023
The supreme court said granting bail for a limited duration is illegal and violates the right to liberty. The move came during a hearing of a plea filed by an accused facing charges under NDPS Act. The court said such orders burden the litigant, who must file a fresh bail application for extension. The Orissa HC had granted bail for 45 days, but the SC modified the order, allowing the accused to be enlarged on bail until the case's final disposal.
