Monday, 4 December 2023 The Zoram People's Movement (ZPM), founded by Lalduhoma, a former IPS officer, MLA, and ex-Member of Parliament, is undergoing a political transformation in Mizoram. Formed in 2018 as a coalition of six regional parties, the ZPM aims to address various issues in Mizoram. In the 2018 Mizoram Assembly elections, the ZPM positioned itself as an alternative to the Mizoram National Front (MNF) and the Indian National Congress (INC) and secured victory in 8 out of 40 seats. In the 2023 elections, the ZPM contested all 40 seats and is anticipated to win 28-35 seats.

Polling in 102 parliamentary seats across 21 states and Union Territories in the first phase of Lok Sabha Elections commenced at 7 am on April 19 and ended at 6 pm. West Bengal recorded the highest turnout till 5 PM at 77.57 per cent, followed by Tripura at 76.10 per cent. Voter turnout in Assam stood at 70.77 per cent, while Manipur recorded a voter turnout of 68.58 per cent till 5 PM.
