Coercing accused to issue DDs to police towards recovery for complainant has no sanctity: Bombay HC
The Bombay High Court criticized the LT Marg police station officers for their high-handedness and stated that their procedure had no sanctity of law. The court ruled against the police's practice of forcing an accused individual to hand over demand drafts for the complainant's recovery. The case involved a father and son who were accused of cheating, and the police demanded 15 lakh rupees in demand drafts. The court set aside the magistrate's order, which directed the police to give the demand drafts to the complainant, as the drafts had already been encashed.
