Don't use derogatory terms for disabled, EC tells political parties

IndiaTimes Thursday, 21 December 2023
As Karnataka becomes the first state in the country to achieve Election Commission's goal of installing permanent wheelchair ramps at all polling stations, the poll body has taken yet another step towards inclusive and accessible elections by issuing guidelines to political parties and their representatives to desist from using ableist language - derogatory terms associated with persons with disabilities (PwDs) - in campaign speeches, articles and voter outreach materials. Parties have been asked to take in more PwDs as members and party workers.
