'Rain baseras' can't occupy public parks permanently: Delhi HC

IndiaTimes Friday, 22 December 2023
Delhi High Court emphasized that night shelters or 'rain basera' should only be a temporary presence in public parks and cannot permanently occupy green areas. The court instructed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to ask the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) to vacate the space it has occupied in Urdu Park, highlighting the importance of preserving green cover. The MCD was directed to write to DUSIB to vacate the park by March and find alternative accommodation. The court also urged MCD to ensure cleanliness and greenery in the parks.
