India issued highest ever commercial pilot licences in 2023; share of women in flight deck to rise

India issued a record number of commercial pilot licenses (CPL), with a significant percentage increase in women empowerment in the civil aviation sector. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) reported a 39.22% increase in CPLs issued in 2023 compared to the previous year. India's leading airline groups, IndiGo and Tata Group's carriers including Air India, have a large number of planes on order. Additionally, small airlines like Akasa also have orders for over 100 planes. To meet the demand for pilots, a new helicopter flying training organization has been approved.
