Manipur firing: One more injured dies; death toll rises to 5
Wednesday, 3 January 2024 Another individual succumbed to injuries sustained in the gunfire orchestrated by a prohibited organization in the Lilong Chingjao area of Thoubal district, Manipur. Hospital authorities confirmed the fatality, bringing the total casualties from the incident to five. The deceased was among the ten individuals wounded during the People's Liberation Army (PLA) cadres' firing on Monday night. All victims were receiving medical care at a private hospital in Imphal. On Monday, four others lost their lives in the same incident. Government officials asserted that the shooting was a consequence of a disagreement related to funds generated from illicit drug trade.

Before the forces retaliated they (militants) fired on camp inmates, and four personnel got serious injuries out of which two succumbed to the injuries. Investigation will be done and we will take action against them. We will not spare them and bring them to the Court of law. They will have to pay for this as per the law of the land... This is the first time that they have attacked the forces, none of the militants of Meiteis or Kukis attacked the forces as the forces are here to maintain peace and that is how we are in the middle of both communities. They call these forces (paramilitary) neutral forces... Earlier, you might have seen that the groups are attacking the national infrastructure like the roads and towers. Now, they are attacking central forces. How can this be tolerated?..."
