Chennai engineering student peddling ganja gets 5-year jail term

IndiaTimes Friday, 5 January 2024
A 20-year-old engineering student from Kattankulathur, Priyanshu Mishra, originally from Rourkela, Odisha, was found guilty by a city court for selling ganja. He has been sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment and fined ₹50,000. Mishra was caught red-handed in front of a private apartment in Potheri, where a bag containing 1.5kg of ganja was found. Despite Mishra's claims of police fabrication, the court concluded that the absence of CCTV footage or independent witnesses was not fatal to the case. He is the fifth person convicted for ganja smuggling in the last month.
