More girls than boys aspire to continue studying after class XII in rural India, says ASER 2023 report released on Wednesday. In general, boys were able to take or at least shape these decisions by dropping out regardless of their family's preferences. Among girls, these decisions were often not in their hands, it says. The aspiration to complete class XII is higher among boys (19.4%) than girls (16.7%), but beyond that 44.3% girls want to continue till undergraduate levels and 21% till PG levels as compared to boys (41.2% and 18.2% respectively).
