Sheikh Shahjahan's arrest polarized Sandeshkhali. Celebrations and tension ensued. Trinamool and CPM shaped Shahjahan's rise. He gained power in Sarberia-Agarhati gram panchayat through his association with the Left trade union, Mukul Roy, and Jyotipriya Mallick. Shahjahan was involved in the fish farm and brick kiln trade. He was also associated with the ED and North 24 Parganas zilla parishad.
