SP buries buzz over Varun Gandhi, unveils pick from Pilibhit
Wednesday, 20 March 2024 Pilibhit BJP MP Varun Gandhi will not be joining forces with Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party, as confirmed by SP's latest candidate list. Bhagwat Saran Gangwar has been nominated by SP for the Pilibhit seat, replacing the incumbent. Gangwar, a veteran five-time MLA from Nawabganj in Bareilly, had previously contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Bareilly under the SP banner.
Days after BJP denied ticket to senior party leader and sitting MP Varun Gandhi from Uttar Pradesh's Pilibhit, Varun Gandhi wrote an emotional letter to people of his constituency. In the letter, the BJP leader, who was expecting a third term, said no matter what "his relationship with Pilibhit is beyond politics" and people are his "family".

On April 28, the Election Commission of India (ECI) directed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to revise the content of its Lok Sabha campaign song to adhere to the Advertising Codes outlined in the Cable Television Network Rules, 1994, and ECI guidelines. The AAP was requested to make necessary modifications to the song and resubmit it for certification. “The phrase “jail ke jawaab me hum vote denge” showing an aggressive mob holding the photo of Arvind Kejriwal showing him behind bars, casts aspersions on the Judiciary. Further, the said phrase appears several times in the advertisement which contravenes the provisions of ECI Guidelines and Rule 6(1(g) of Programme and Advertising Codes prescribed under the Cable Television Network Rules, 1994” (DISPLAY) said ECI.
