The UN announces that a deal has been reached with Syria to reopen border crossing from Turkey
Wednesday, 9 August 2023 The United Nations and Syria have reached an agreement to reopen the Bab al-Hawa crossing between Turkey and northwest Syria for six months, after the UN Security Council failed to adopt a resolution to authorise further deliveries through the border crossing on July 11. The crossing is used for 85% of deliveries to the northwest Idlib region, home to about 4.1 million people, who rely heavily on aid.
Published on Wednesday, Syrian President Bashar Assad criticized Turkey, attributing the recent escalation of violence in his war-ravaged nation to Ankara’s actions, and emphatically called for the complete withdrawal of Turkish forces from Syria.
