North Korea says Travis King wants refuge from mistreatment
Wednesday, 16 August 2023 North Korea has suggested that the US Army private, Travis King, deliberately crossed the border onto its territory due to racial discrimination and inhuman maltreatment he faced in America and the Army. The admission by the North is the first public acknowledgement of King's presence. In August, his uncle claimed that King - who is Black - was facing racism during his military deployment. US officials have so far declined to recognise him as a prisoner of war.
