Ukraine's parliament backs ban on Russia-linked church in initial vote

The Ukrainian parliament has given initial approval to a law that would ban the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) due to allegations of collaboration with Russia. The UOC, which has historic links to Moscow, denies the accusations and deems the draft law unconstitutional. Most Ukrainian Christians belong to the OCU. The UOC's influence has significantly declined since Russia's invasion in 2022. The law would prohibit religious organizations affiliated with aggressor states and require court intervention to terminate their activities.
