Rishi Sunak nears first anniversary as UK PM with little to celebrate

Two by-election losses to the main opposition Labour Party on Thursday underscored how Sunak, 43, has failed to revive the Conservatives' beleaguered fortunes during his first 12 months in charge. "The more people see of Sunak, the less they like him in some ways," Tim Bale, author of a book about the right-wing Conservatives since Brexit, told AFP. "He doesn't really project authority, he doesn't necessarily give the impression that he's in control of events."
