South Korea detains boat carrying suspected North Korean defectors
Tuesday, 24 October 2023 South Korean authorities have detained a North Korean boat carrying individuals believed to be seeking defection. The boat was stopped near the sea boundary between the two Koreas, and four North Koreans were reportedly on board. This is the second case of North Koreans crossing the sea border to defect in recent months. Most North Korean escapees typically go through China and Southeast Asia instead of attempting to cross the heavily guarded North-South Korea border.
