Scientists unveil recreation of sacrificed Inca maiden in Peru

IndiaTimes Wednesday, 25 October 2023
Scientists in Peru have unveiled a lifelike recreation of the head and torso of a young girl who was likely sacrificed to Incan gods over 500 years ago. The reconstruction was made using three-dimensional scans of her well-preserved mummy. The girl, known as the Lady of Ampato or Juanita, was believed to be 14 or 15 years old when she was sacrificed. The recreation, now on display at the Catholic University of Santa Maria in Arequipa, captures her features and attire based on the scans of the mummy. Archaeologist Johan Reinhard described the reconstruction as "magnificent" and realistic.
