Vatican synod ends without clear stances on women, LGBT community

The month-long Vatican meeting on the future of the Roman Catholic Church ended without clear positions on issues such as women deacons and LGBT inclusion. The meeting, called a Synod of Bishops, allowed women and lay people to vote on Church affairs for the first time. However, the final report did not take a stand on LGBT issues despite discussions beforehand. The report mentioned the need to hear and accompany marginalized individuals but did not call for greater inclusion. LGBT advocates expressed disappointment with the report. The pope will close the gathering with a Mass on Sunday.
