Gaza hospitals in firing line that Israel claims are militant hubs
Saturday, 11 November 2023 Israeli air strikes hit three Gaza hospitals and a school on Friday, killing at least 22 people. Palestinian officials reported that a ground battle was also taking place at another hospital. The Israeli military claims that the hospitals are being used by Hamas militants as human shields, a claim that Hamas denies. Gaza's hospitals were already struggling to cope with the conflict, with shortages of medical supplies, clean water, and fuel. Thousands of people have been forced to flee in the wake of the attacks.
US President Joe Biden said hospitals in the Gaza Strip must be protected and he hoped for "less intrusive" action by Israel as Israeli tanks advanced to the gates of the besieged enclave's main hospital, the Al-Shifa hospital.
